The 8th race of the Chase took the Sprint Cup drivers to Texas Motor Speedway, a track chaser Carl Edwards won at in the Spring. Quals for this Texas race resulted in Jeff Gordon getting the pole over Martin Truex Jr. In the race, a big wreck occured when David Gilliland intentionally wrecked Juan Pablo Montoya. The lap before that wreck, Montoya appeared to loosen Gilliland off of Turn 2 possibly making contact. Montoya had gotten by the #38 but on the next lap Gilliland intentionally hit Juan sending him hard into the wall along the backstretch. Juan had run well during the day much like he did last week but two weeks now he wrecked. Edwards and crew chief Bob Osborne knew that they needed to gamble in order to get big points on Jimmie Johnson so they stretched fuel mileage far past the feasible amount of fuel the tank could usually hold. It was incredible that Edwards got to the line first. Jeff Gordon followed in second place, missing out on his first win of the year. Not only did Carl Edwards win the race, he did what he had to do to gain on Johnson by leading the most laps to earn five more bonus points. Four Chevys, four Fords, and two Toyotas obtained Top 10 finishes, with David Reutimann having another strong run getting 10th.

The Top 10:
1. #99 Carl Edwards (Ford)
2. #24 Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet)
3. #26 Jamie McMurray (Ford)
4. #07 Clint Bowyer (Chevrolet)
5. #16 Greg Biffle (Ford)
6. #18 Kyle Busch (Toyota)
7. #29 Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet)
8. #1 Martin Truex Jr. (Chevrolet)
9. #17 Matt Kenseth (Ford)
10. #44 David Reutimann (Toyota)

Carl cut Jimmie Johnson's lead by more than a third here at Texas. Could Jimmie's bad luck continue? Find out as Cup heads out west to Phoenix.
