2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 7: Samsung 500 @ Texas

The Sprint Cup headed to another track that would be hosted later on in the Chase. This time Texas Motor Speedway, for Race #7. Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the pole beating out Carl Edwards. Qualifying more eventful than usual due to a hard wreck involving Michael McDowell driving the #00 once driven by Reutimann. On Michael's second qualifying lap his car got loose, hooked and slammed into the Turn 1 wall. The impact caused McDowell's car to barrel roll several times down the banking before coming to rest on the wheels in Turn 2. Thankfully, Michael was able to vacate the car quickly without major injury. During the race, Carl Edwards regained his Intermediate track skills and went on to dominate at Texas leading the most laps, leading 123 of 334 laps. Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch both led laps but it was Carl that took Texas by the horns to score his third win on the season (Texas Longhorn reference, lol). Martin Truex Jr. looked to have a solid fifth or sixth place finish but smoke billowed out of his car and was forced to DNF with 20 to go when his engine died. Four Chevrolets, three Toyotas, two Fords, and one Dodge got Top 10s in this race.
