2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 13: Best Buy 400 @ Dover Empty 2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 13: Best Buy 400 @ Dover

Post by Burnout Thu Jan 22, 2009 5:51 pm

Greg Biffle scored his second pole of the year at Dover, race #13 for the Sprint Cup Series. He ousted the Dodge of Kurt Busch for the pole. This was the final race on FOX for the 2008 season. The theme of Dover was to benefit Autism Speaks. They did spots during the commercials where the commentators sat in a theatre describing autism and how fans could get involved. They had hosted every race since the Budweiser Shootout to open the season. The race got ugly pretty soon after the start. Elliott Sadler came down the racetrack in Turn 2 on Lap 18 to get in front of David Gilliland, but miscalculated the move, getting fishtailed by Gilliland. Sadler wrecked into the Turn 2 wall then got nailed by Tony Stewart with nowhere to go. Other cars tried weaving through it but Denny Hamlin made the situation much worse by flying off of Turn 2, probably seeing a hole in the pack to get through. But that hole was gone by the time Hamlin got there and plowed into the wreck. Dale Jr. got involved as well as Kevin Harvick. Clint Bowyer and Kasey Kahne also were involved but they managed to get away with minimal damage. The rest of the race went real clean and ended up going green flag the final 153 laps. During that time, green flag pitstops were made which the 18 team executed well. That got Kyle in front of Carl Edwards as well as put a nice cushion on him despite having a 'less than perfect' car. Busch drove off for his fourth win of the year. Five Fords got Top 10 finishes at Dover, four Roush Fenway cars and one Yates Racing car. There were also four Chevrolet's and of course one Toyota, the winner Kyle Busch.

The Top 10:
1. #18 Kyle Busch (Toyota)
2. #99 Carl Edwards (Ford)
3. #16 Greg Biffle (Ford)
4. #17 Matt Kenseth (Ford)
5. #24 Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet)
6. #1 Martin Truex Jr. (Chevrolet)
7. #48 Jimmie Johnson (Chevrolet)
8. #31 Jeff Burton (Chevrolet)
9. #26 Jamie McMurray (Ford)
10. #28 Travis Kvapil (Ford)
