2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 32: TUMS QuikPak 500 @ Martinsville Empty 2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 32: TUMS QuikPak 500 @ Martinsville

Post by Burnout Tue Feb 10, 2009 2:46 pm

The second half of the Chase kicked off at Martinsville, VA for 500 laps on the half mile paperclip oval. Once again, qualifying was rained out so Jimmie Johnson inherited the pole by virtue of leading the standings. Jeff Burton jumped to 2nd after Lowe's so he started outside pole to Johnson. Martinsville is one of Jimmie Johnson's most consistent racetracks when it comes to running well, dubbed the "Master of Martinsville". This race was no different, he led the most laps and appeared to show why he should be winning the Chase. He went on to cruise to an easy victory holding off Dale Jr. to further extend his point lead in the Chase, but Greg Biffle finishing 12th slid into the 2nd spot in the standings heading into next week. SEVEN Chevrolets, two Fords, and one Toyota registered Top 10 finishes, not to mention all four Hendrick cars finishing in the Top 6. Johnson has the most incredible luck during the Chase it seems to avoid accidents and perform well. Kyle Busch had one Top 5 finish last week, but continued to falter in the Chase, finishing 29th due to tire problems.

The Top 10:
1. #48 Jimmie Johnson (Chevrolet)
2. #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Chevrolet)
3. #99 Carl Edwards (Ford)
4. #24 Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet)
5. #11 Denny Hamlin (Toyota)
6. #5 Casey Mears (Chevrolet)
7. #29 Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet)
8. #17 Matt Kenseth (Ford)
9. #07 Clint Bowyer (Chevrolet)
10. #1 Martin Truex Jr. (Chevrolet)

Four races until a champ is crowned. Can Johnson hold on?
