2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 6: Goody's Cool Orange 500 @ Martinsville

After a week off, the Sprint Cup Series headed to the paperclip track of Martinsville for 500 laps. Jeff Gordon nabbed the pole with Denny Hamlin starting alongside in 2nd. The weather for the race was overcast with frequent mist. However, the wetness wasn't bad enough to park the cars in pit lane for a rain delay. The heat in the track built up by 43 cars going by every 15 seconds was enough to prevent the mist from dampening the racetrack much. Dale Earnhardt Jr. dominated the bulk of the race, leading the most laps, but others like Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton, and Denny Hamlin all had their turns out front. Hamlin played some pit strategy on the final pitstop taking fuel only to get his Toyota out front. He successfully held off Jeff Gordon in 2nd and Jeff Burton in 3rd to score his fourth career win and his first win in his home state of Virginia. It was Toyota's second win of the year. All Four Hendrick cars placed in the Top 7 amongst 6 Chevrolets. Two Toyotas and two Fords also got Top 10s.
