Jeff Gordon recovered from that hard hit at Vegas to claim the pole at Atlanta for Race #4. He beat out his teammate Dale Jr. for the pole. AJ Allmendinger, the driver of the #84 Toyota was replaced by Mike Skinner for four races in an attempt to get some info on the car and to help out its performance. In the race, Kyle Busch led the most laps but Carl Edwards led alot as well. Carl came off of back-to-back wins and a 100 point penalty given to him after the Vegas race. Carl appeared to have the stronger car in the closing laps of the race, but his transmission failed and was forced to register a DNF. Kyle Busch was able to retake the lead and drive away to the checkers. It ended up being a Toyota 1-2, with Kyle Busch winning and Tony Stewart getting 2nd. Five Chevrolets got Top 10s, 3 Toyota, 2 Fords, and no Dodge's for the first time this season. Stewart had some harsh words about the Goodyear tire following the race which made the headlines. That was the first major tire problem of the year with more to come throughout the season.

The Top 10:
1. #18 Kyle Busch (Toyota)
2. #20 Tony Stewart (Toyota)
3. #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Chevrolet)
4. #16 Greg Biffle (Ford)
5. #24 Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet)
6. #07 Clint Bowyer (Chevrolet)
7. #29 Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet)
8. #17 Matt Kenseth (Ford)
9. #83 Brian Vickers (Toyota)
10. #31 Jeff Burton (Chevrolet)
