If the last ten races were the Chase, here is how the drivers rank based on their average finishes during the stretch. (Loudon - Richmond, last 10 races)

"Race to the Chase" Average Finishes (Last 10 races) Race_t10

NOTES
-Denny Hamlin has a solid 9.0 average, definately consistent enough to make a run at the title to save JGR's season.
-Brian Vickers is second best, likely why he was able to claw himself into the Chase just in time.
-Defending champ Jimmie Johnson ranks eighth on average finishes. Weakening? You be the judge.
-Only a 6.1 position swing from Denny Hamlin to Kurt Busch. Ironically those two finished 1-2 at Richmond.
-Montoya, Kahne, and Newman are the ONLY ones to avoid 30th or worse place finishes.
-Ranks 1-6 are different teams (Gibbs, Red Bull, Stewart-Haas, Petty, Earnhardt-Ganassi, and Hendrick).
-Average 7.0 in the Chase to win the title? Hell yeah if you can do that because it didn't happen here.

If I were to pick my top 3 picks in no particular order it would be....
Denny Hamlin
Jimmie Johnson
Kasey Kahne

First off Hamlin has had consistency throughout the end of this season.
Jimmie Johnson is a former winner and defending champ... He knows what it takes to win and has beaten out every single one of the competitors before.
Kasey Kahne also has great consistency and is young, if he doesn't do well this year, it won't be the end for him. Kahne is going to be an all-time favorite in years to come (mark my words).
*Sleeper Pick* Juan Pablo Montoya, he's stepped it up lately, who knows? Maybe Juan can make a good run at it this year!
*Last Place* Carl Edwards, he hasn't excited me at all this year, and has not won a race (that I know of, I might be wrong), but his projected wins were marked at 9... No good Carl... No good...

Interesting choices here. Hamlin for sure is a threat, Kahne is an underdog with a nice average finish, and Johnson obviously 'CAN' get it done, but I don't think its his year IMO. Nice write up there Burn.

Denny Hamlin
Jaun Montoya
Kasey Kahne

Don't count out Montoya, he has been a threat for the win in these last couple races.
