Race 3 for the Sprint Cup was out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This was the second Cup race on the mile and a half track since it was repaved before the 2007 race. Since the qualifying at Auto Club Speedway was rained out, this marked the first qualifying session using the "Go or go home qualifying" style in which the Top 35 cars would qualify in the first group while those outside the Top 35 would qualify together in a second group. Kyle Busch ended up winning the pole for this race over Carl Edwards. The race itself was caution filled, in fact it set the record for cautions in one race. The final caution involved Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth half a lap after a restart. On the restart before the wreck, Dale Jr. spun the tires and didn't get up to speed. This made Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon split Junior high and low. Jeff was on the bottom and couldn't quite grip the car on the line and drifted up the track, barely tagging Kenseth in Turn 2. Kenseth started spinning out and Gordon tried to miss it low but lost control of his car and careened towards the inside wall making a hard impact, tearing his car to pieces. Gordon's radiator flew out of the car and landed further down the backstretch. Upon the restart, Carl Edwards drove off and scored his second win in a row holding off Dale Jr. who benefited from Gordon and Kenseth spinning out. A notable driver who scored a Top 10 is Travis Kvapil, finishing 8th.

The Top 10:
1. #99 Carl Edwards (Ford)
2. #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Chevrolet)
3. #16 Greg Biffle (Ford)
4. #29 Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet)
5. #31 Jeff Burton (Chevrolet)
6. #9 Kasey Kahne (Dodge)
7. #6 David Ragan (Ford)
8. #28 Travis Kvapil (Ford)
