2008 SPRINT CUP RACE 2: Auto Club 500 @ California

Race 2 of the Sprint Cup season was out at the Auto Club Speedway in California. It was a rare rainy weekend over there. Cup qualifying was cancelled which put Jimmie Johnson on the pole due to 2007 Owner Points. Jeff Gordon would start 2nd. The race did get underway on Sunday, but due to the track being real wet from the past couple of days, that led to people spinning out and wrecking. One notable wreck was Casey Mears wrecking collecting Dale Jr. Moments after, Sam Hornish ran underneath Mears flipping the 5 car on its side. Later, the rains came and delayed the event. The talk was to continue the race around midnight, but weepers in Turn 2 forced NASCAR to postpone the race until Monday. Monday was clear skies and the racing was much better. Carl Edwards eventually made a statement and led Jimmie Johnson to the checkers to score Ford's first win of the year. Jeff Gordon got 3rd and Edwards' teammate Kenseth got 5th. Daytona 500 winner Newman also registered a Top 10 finish.
