Winner at Daytona

We ended the Daytona Cup race early due to a wrongful ban on Lexx by Aniro. That action prompted me to end the race over at 136 laps complete. Following the race end, I ruled Pilburn the 'official' winner due to the shortened race results shown on the screen. It would make a JGR 1-2-3 finish.

Later on Tuesday night, I went to review the actual race finish due to a dispute on Spikes' running order at the final caution. Upon reviewing the final 5 laps or so, I noticed that Lexx was the race leader as the caution flew and never pit during the time from then till the moment Aniro banned him. Lexx did lag back some to type some admin comments, but the running order is frozen at the moment of the caution. Lexx didn't pit, so he's still first place whether he's up there or not.

Pilburn is aruging that he is the winner because I had already called it 'official'. The definition of official (the adjective) is 'verified to be confirmed final'. Even though the tape shows my original ruling incorrect, should the 'official' order be held as stated on the server or should the tape confirm the order as it proves to be. Decide.

nascar wouldnt be able to go back and change a running order a few hours later, so if burn said its official in the server, its official.

I don't deny it, I said 'official'. I gave Pilburn the win without checking the video to confirm anything. Face it, everybody thought Pilburn won after that, and of course I did as well. But I always had 'checking the tape' in mind to confirm the running order before Lexx got banned. My original intent was to verify Spikes' position but I came across an error in my judgment.

Lexx had the race lead there during the caution and the video had all of the evidence in the world to support Pilburn's lack of victory. The way the video proved that kinda threw a kink in Aniro's goal to kick out Lexx as Lexx ends up the winner anyway by virtue of his race position at the most recent caution.

I admit I use the word 'official' alot, sometimes without realizing I'm saying it. I answered Pil's question that he 'won' by saying official and I meant that. I DID think he won that race as did most everyone else I believe.

In all honesty I'm on the fence here with how to vote. I know Pilburn should be entitled to that victory by my slip of the tounge but at the same time the video evidence is always used to determine final order even if it means resorting the finish by a flaw in speculation. In NASCAR, its the video tape that determines the finishing order, and thats how I will sort the finish whether Pil gets the win or not.

I'll vote for Lexx as he did win that technically and foiled Aniro's plan to kick him out of the race cuz of frustration. That is the ultimate payback to the horrible mistake he made banning Lexx since he wasn't an admin to do so.

But whatever the result is, I'll settle for. Congrats Lexx or Pilburn, whoever triumphs.

NASCAR calls the races Unofficial so they can do ruling afterwards, thats how penalties are handed out for part infractions during "post race inspections". Even though he said "official" the tape still shows the real evidence of Lexx being the leader.

Official means you cant change it..

Look i watched the race on video at pils and i dont know where to call it. i mean if the man says u win u freakin win. but whether its right to lexx or not idk. ima have a neutral vote to decide this one i believe. good luck whoever wins lol. by the way im gettin fast internet today so i can come to all the races from now on.

nascar calls the running order unofficial for a few minutes until they review the tape but not hours later do they change the order, they do it right on the spot, and like pil said "official" means u cant change it.

I chose Lexx, sorry Pilburn... The reason for this is because I like to see someone deserve their win. Pilburn, if I were in your position (Almost locked into the chase) I'd feel as though I didn't actually win. Lexx had the upper-hand and he deserves it. SCARTS isn't NASCAR guys...

I vote for pilburn on this one. It's very true what klutch said, Nascar won't change the running order after a few hours, you guys should know that. So ya, I am voting for pil on this one

I heard that Pilburn won the race in the server and i was happy that he won. I remember Burnout saying that Pilburn was oficially the winner. So why should that be changed? In NASCAR they dont do things like this. We need a 123 Joe Gibbs Racing

Poll is closed as 24 hours have passed. Kooler's reasoning that if Pil is involved, its something bad is not a good enough reason to use toward the vote. I wanted you all to analyze the poll and provide a good reason for it instead of using it as an opportunity to show preference.

This is an open forum Kooler, I'm not putting down that comment, just I can't count it b/c of your original reasoning.

Even though Pilburn wins this, I will be alot lot more careful of my word choices and always use the tape to determine the final 'official' order. The tape will always confirm that if there is discrepancy in order. This goes from now on.

So congrats Pilburn, good luck from here on out. Tight Chase shaping up here....

In all fairness to Lexx here who was running up front at the caution, Lexx NEEDS to have a Top 3 finish because he earned it. Its not his fault for being an admin when he earned that front spot. Since Pilburn WINS because of my ruling, Lexx has to finish up there in 2nd or he just gets a screwjob for no reason for doing admin stuff in the race.

Pil claims if Lexx got banned, he got banned and that's it. But Aniro had no right to ban him and there was no motive to do so. Is that fair to Lexx to be scored 7th getting banned by a non-admin while he was leading at the final caution and didn't pit?????

Remember I'm not overturning Pil's win, I just think Lexx deserves 2nd here...

OK so, reviewing the tape there WASN'T a chance to pit as I originally thought. I'd forgotten that I was lagging back also to tell Aniro to 'quit the intentional hitting of lexx'. So the final order will be scored at 134 laps complete, Pil still gets the victory by my mispeak. Lexx will be 2nd, Burnout 3rd, and so on.

This is 100% accurate. Watch the tape yourself for confirmation. Lexx and I are locked our positions as the caution flew so we are still essentially up front, not Klutch and Spikes. They are 4th and 5th virtually at the caution flag. Admins do not lose track position under yellow if they fall back to enforce rules. Positions are locked.
